Why This Matters - a funding gap in the cost to maintain infrastructure will result in high tax increases in the future and risk to the city's ability to maintain facilities in good working order. The City of Cambridge has a $34.9 million annual shortfall through 2034 in the requirement for funds to maintain infrastructure - the time to find a solution is now.
Why This Matters - The Province of Ontario and Region of Waterloo have established growth targets for our community. While the City cannot simply choose whether growth occurs, Council is responsible for ensuring that growth is planned responsibly. This means balancing housing, employment, transportation, recreation, infrastructure, and long-term financial sustainability so that growth strengthens our community.
Why This Matters - Many of the challenges facing municipalities today cannot be addressed by property taxes alone. Cambridge must continue working with regional, provincial and federal partners to secure funding for community priorities while ensuring local tax dollars are managed responsibly and invested where they will have the greatest impact.
