Born and raised in Cambridge, Kristen Danson has deep roots in the community she proudly calls home. She chose to build her career, raise her family, and invest her time in Cambridge because she believes strong communities are built through relationships, service, and a commitment to making things better for future generations. Kristen and her husband, Jim, enjoy taking advantage of Cambridge's amenities by exploring the trails on Sunday morning bike rides, coffee dates, attending local events and checking out local restaurants.
As a business owner, Kristen has spent her career solving problems, bringing people together, and making responsible decisions. Having built and grown two successful local businesses, Kristen understands the challenges of managing finances, planning, and making difficult decisions in uncertain times. Kristen's entrepreneurial background has instilled a passion for buying local to help drive the small business landscape in Cambridge. Her mantra that "every time you buy from a small business you help to make someone's dream come true" is contagious, and she shares it at every opportunity.
Community involvement has always been a priority. Over the years, Kristen has served in leadership roles across business and economic development, community and social services, and civic organizations. These experiences have provided an expansive understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing Cambridge while helping build lasting relationships throughout the community. As a business owner, Kristen continuously sought involvement in volunteer roles where she "was not the boss" to help maintain perspective on leadership from other vantage points in an organization.
A lifelong learner, Kristen recently completed her Bachelor of Commerce degree while balancing the responsibilities of business ownership, family, and volunteer leadership. She believes learning never ends and that the best decisions come from listening carefully, staying curious, considering different perspectives, and being willing to challenge assumptions when presented with new information.
Today, Kristen finds herself entering a new chapter of life. With her son beginning his studies at the University of Waterloo and her family and business in a strong position, she has the time, energy, and experience to dedicate more time to public service.
Kristen is running for Cambridge City Council because she cares deeply about the future of the community that has given so much to her and her family. She believes thoughtful leadership, long-term planning, responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars, and meaningful community engagement will ensure Cambridge remains a great place to live, work, raise a family, and build a future.
I believe that learning is a life-long endeavour and pursue every opportunity to engage in opportunties to gain new knowledge, understanding and expand my perspective on the world and how it is governed.
I will continue to be curious and to seek connections within the community, through formal learning systems and within our council to expand my knowledge and
Cambridge's challenges cannot be solved one budget cycle at a time.
Decisions related to infrastructure, housing, economic development, recreation, community services should be evaluated based on their long-term impact on our city and future generations.
I will consistently evaluate the impact of decisions against the city's Strategic Plan to ensure we are implementing meaningful solutions that support our objectives.
The most successful communities work together.
Many of the challenges facing Cambridge require partnerships between residents, businesses, community organizations, neighbouring municipalities, the Region of Waterloo, and provincial and federal governments.
I will work to build productive relationships that attract investment, secure funding opportunities, and create positive outcomes for our community.
Good decisions require more than opinions.
Council members have a responsibility to review evidence, understand financial impacts and risk of the decisions made.
I will invest the time required to make decisions based on fact, be prepared for productive debate and to listen to revelant stakeholders with an open mind.
Public trust is earned through transparency, honesty, and accountability.
Residents deserve representatives who communicate openly, explain their decisions, and are willing to be held accountable for the commitments they make.
I will approach every decision with integrity and a commitment to serving the best interests of Cambridge.
Effective leadership begins with listening.
Residents want to know their voices are heard and considered.
I am committed to engaging with residents, businesses, community organizations, and stakeholders with respect and an open mind.
Listening does not mean agreeing with everyone. It means taking the time to understand different perspectives before making decisions.
